The President of the Government of Spain between 2004 and 2011, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, "supports Marcos Bergaz in his candidacy for mayor of the Teguise City Council" in the upcoming local elections on May 28, the candidate reports.
On his last visit to Lanzarote, and after an early morning run along Famara beach, they both enjoyed a relaxed conversation, in which they shared their plans for Teguise and La Graciosa: "Marcos only talks to me about Teguise," he declares in a video, "even when he's at 150 beats per minute."
Zapatero, a resident of Caleta de Famara, where he has his second home, paid attention to the project that Marcos Bergaz and his team want to lead in the municipality of Teguise, Bergaz confirms.
Thus, during the race and subsequent coffee, Zapatero resonated with the air of change that Bergaz's speech exudes. "He will do well because he has Teguise in his head and heart," said the president of equal marriage, the dependency law, and the end of terrorism in Spain.
Bergaz thanked Zapatero for his complicity and assured that "we will govern in Teguise for everyone, without distinction, as you did in your years as president of Spain, with understanding and consensus as unwavering flags."
"Because we are a great country, José Luis, with places as unique and special as Famara, Teguise, and Lanzarote, where you will always be welcome," said the socialist candidate.
Zapatero ended the meeting with a "Marcos, let's win on May 28th," addressing the person who stands as an "alternative to 40 years of nationalism and insularity" in Teguise and La Graciosa and who he "wants to see as mayor when he returns to Lanzarote soon," Marcos Bergaz reports.
