Yonathan de León congratulates student Mariano Stinga for his academic excellence

The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, has congratulated the young university student Mariano Stinga González for his great academic achievements. Graduating in two engineering fields with outstanding marks and two honors in his Final Degree Projects is the dream of many students. And this 23-year-old young man, a resident of Arrecife, has achieved it.

The mayor of the city has wished to personally congratulate this brilliant university student from Lanzarote who, thanks to his effort, tenacity, and intelligence, has managed to graduate in Naval and Oceanic Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, and also holds a Master's degree in Naval and Oceanic Engineering. Furthermore, the significant trajectory of this Lanzarote native at the University of A Coruña, after six years of study, is evidenced by the Ángela Ruiz Robles award for his academic excellence in the fourth year of the Dual Degree Program in Mechanical Engineering and Naval and Oceanic Engineering, a degree he completed this very year. The award corresponds to the 2023/2024 academic year and was received last year from the President of Galicia, Alfonso Rueda Valenzuela.

Stinga González explained to the mayor, during this protocol meeting at the Arrecife City Hall, that "his great passion for nautical sports, for the world of sailing, which he has practiced since childhood, drove him to study these dual engineering degrees because he wishes to dedicate himself in the professional world to the design of sailboats, among other things." His professional objective, as he pointed out at this meeting, is "to continue with R&D&I research in topics of nautical vessels powered by sail. During his university career, he collaborated with Navantia, one of the major Spanish firms in shipbuilding."

In addition to his brilliant academic successes, Mariano Stinga stands out as a great regatta sailor, with an impressive track record in his young sporting career. The most recent achievement was being proclaimed champion of the University Sailing Championship Xunta de Galicia.

For Mariano Stinga, living in Arrecife allows him to practice nautical sports, where he is affiliated with the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife. During his university holidays, he comes to Lanzarote and goes sailing whenever he can. He told the mayor, anecdotally, that "the bay of Arrecife is unique, and the good weather always accompanies, unlike in Galicia, due to the weather, during his studies in Ferrol."

The mayor congratulated himself on these great academic successes of this neighbor from Arrecife, congratulating him personally, congratulations that he extended to Mariano's family, and encouraged him "to continue creating and researching in the future, from the Canary Islands, with the commitment that is being made to the blue economy, several of his future nautical projects having the Canary Archipelago as a base".

Yonathan de León gifted Mariano Stinga with a book about the literary and journalistic work of Agustín de la Hoz, a Lanzarote writer to whom the city of Arrecife has dedicated the House of Culture, and whose centenary of birth is commemorated in this 2026.
