The network of inclusive parks in the municipality of Yaiza is an example in Lanzarote and its existence and progress did not go unnoticed in the fifty-second edition of the National Congress of Public Parks and Gardens (PARJAP), held last week in Barcelona with the motto Living heritage: transforming the urban landscape, where Yaiza won the National Award for the Best Inclusive Green Space Project for the implementation of the Femés Atrás children's park.

The Congress recognizes “the innovative nature of the park and its clear inclusive vocation, as well as its applicability to other municipalities”, also highlighting the technical guide of recommendations for the park network and the proprietary application in development Play Yaiza, “tools that facilitate strategic planning and promote accessible spaces for all citizens”, points out Rubén Arca, Councilor for Parks and Gardens of Yaiza, in charge of collecting the distinction.

The mayor, Óscar Noda, emphasizes “the constant and progressive work of modernization and implementation of Yaiza's playgrounds, designed under criteria of accessibility and inclusion. The project reflects our commitment to the creation of urban environments that guarantee the right to play for all children, regardless of their abilities.”

Rubén Arca also maintains that “the Femés Atrás park and all the inclusive parks in the municipality, such as those we have in the towns of Uga, Las Breñas, Yaiza and Playa Blanca, incorporate solutions aimed at promoting participation, coexistence, interaction and shared enjoyment, catering to the diversity of users. We work to ensure that our public spaces are truly for everyone.”

With this initiative, Yaiza continues to advance in its commitment to a model of more inclusive, accessible, and adapted public space to the real needs of citizens, making a leap in quality and well-being that is already recognized nationally. The PARJAP National Awards, consolidated as a reference in the sector, highlight the work of public administrations, technicians, researchers, and professionals who, from different fields, promote more resilient, livable, and connected cities with nature.
