The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, confirms that the City Council has awarded this Wednesday the emergency contract for the collection service of urban solid waste in the municipality, for a period of twelve months and at a rate of 1.7 million euros charged to the municipal budget, to the company Valoriza Servicio Medio Ambientales, which now has 45 days to start operating in the municipality with all the machinery and conditions required by the local Administration, including respect for the labor rights of workers.
Óscar Noda informs that "the measure is aimed at improving the service until we finish the new bidding process." Yaiza sent invitations to six companies to submit offers, of which four of them registered their proposals. "Under strict technical criteria, we awarded the emergency contract to Valoriza, but, in any case, our great objective is to put out to tender and finalize the new bidding process during these twelve months to guarantee a garbage collection service that is exemplary in Lanzarote," adds the mayor.
Yaiza has put the service out to public tender on four occasions, without the files being able to prosper due to the filing of different appeals. The Councilor for Cleaning of Yaiza, Rubén Arca, explains that "the municipal technical report elaborates on the deficiencies of the service currently provided by Urbaser, confirming the causes that promote the emergency contract." Municipal sources advance that next Monday the City Council will hold a meeting with the company Valoriza Servicio Medio Ambientales to lay the foundations for the operation of the service.
On the other hand, Yaiza once again demands that the Cabildo de Lanzarote improve the selective garbage collection service: "in the municipality there are many problems and complaints about the timely collection of plastic, glass and cardboard."
