The City Council presided over by Óscar Noda published this Friday in the Official Journal of the European Union and the Public Sector Contracting Platform the tender whose object is to sign the provision of the new service for the collection and transport to the island landfill of domestic waste generated in the municipality of Yaiza, as well as the supply, cleaning and maintenance of containers. The contract, for a period of 10 years, is put out to tender with a budgetary estimate of 41.3 million euros, and interested companies can submit their offers until Monday, August 3, 2026.

“Our will has always been to improve the service in the tourist center of Playa Blanca and in all towns, without exception, and for this reason we are publishing a complete, ambitious tender with environmental guarantees, trusting in awarding the contract to the company that meets, and even improves, each of the technical requirements detailed in the specifications. The tender includes the economic study and the cost structure,” declares the mayor of Yaiza.

Services

The specifications include the collection of organic waste, residual fraction, domestic oil, bulky waste, electrical appliances, pruning waste, and the novelty of the installation of mobile clean points that will rotate through the towns of Yaiza. The awarded company also undertakes to collect construction and demolition waste found abandoned in public spaces, constituting dumps, and likewise waste generated at parties, pilgrimages, and any event promoted by the City Council.

The stipulated garbage collection schedule is from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., Monday to Sunday, with personnel, machinery, and routes adapted to the needs of the municipality. The Councilor for Cleaning of Yaiza, Rubén Arca, details that “the services of the contract are very clear and in them we demand the conservation and cleaning of containers, because the areas where they are located cannot become sources of infection. Citizen collaboration is essential, and for this reason the awarded company will also have to carry out citizen awareness and education campaigns.”

Regarding the specific service of pruning and bulky waste collection, the contractor will coordinate with the City Council on the form of communication with residents so that its provision is quick and effective. The City Council emphasizes the collection and transport of vegetable oil of domestic origin. If opting for collection by containers, they must comply with safety and hygiene characteristics to avoid spills in public areas.

Mobile collection points

For the so-called mobile collection points, the company must implement a collection service using a container on a truck or specific vehicle equipped with easily accessible containers for the separate collection of oil, aerosols, batteries, low-energy light bulbs, printer ink cartridges and toners, CDs, DVDs, video tapes, fluorescent tubes, mobile phone batteries and chargers, paints, solvents, plastics and PVC, X-ray films, small electrical and electronic waste, and medicines, among others.

While the new contract is being awarded, Yaiza will continue to provide the service through the company Valoriza Servicios Medioambientales, which assumed responsibility in May 2025 after the municipality terminated its relationship with Urbaser.
