The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, broke down this Friday in a press conference the 2024 municipal budget

The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, has responded to the complaints presented by citizens regarding the problems in the garbage collection service provided by Urbaser in the municipality. In addition to forwarding the incidents and complaints to the company, the mayor has demanded "the effective fulfillment of the service" and has ordered "the relevant municipal technical reports for the application of appropriate sanctions.”

The mayor recalled that “in August we updated the fee to 96,000 euros per month, that is, 15,000 euros per month more than what the Administration had been paying, but we see that the commitment to optimize the service has not been fulfilled.”

Óscar Noda has detailed that “then we agreed with the company that the workers would enjoy better social, labor and economic conditions, that they would have adequate provisions for their safety in the performance of their work and also that the company would make available to them the technical resources necessary to provide a quality service, but day to day teaches us another reality, and if we strictly comply with the monthly payment, the least we can and must do is demand and sanction.”

New public tender

The government has assured that the resolution of the problem lies in contracting a service with new conditions, so the bidding for the service is imminent, therefore, Óscar Noda stressed, “when we approved the budget at the beginning of the year, we allocated an item of 2.8 million euros for this purpose and we spare no effort. The new specifications have already been delivered to the Intervention for its audit, of course, before publishing it in the contractor's profile where interested companies will be able to read the technical and administrative specifications to compete.”

Finally, the mayor lamented “that neighbors and businessmen have to endure incidents that harm the interests of the municipality.”
