The spokesperson for Yaiza Siempre, Jonatan Lemes, "has once again highlighted the poor management of the current government of the Yaiza City Council", denouncing the "incapacity" of the mayor Óscar Noda when executing the numerous subsidies he receives from other institutions and that, "due to his negligence", have to be returned due to his "lack of rigor".
Specifically, Jonatan Lemes criticizes "the latest municipal outrage where neither the Finance Councilor, who is the mayor himself, nor his Culture Councilor, Daniel Medina, have been able to justify a subsidy granted by the Cabildo of Lanzarote" and which was destined for the La Casona de Femés project, one of the treasures of the traditional architecture of southern Lanzarote. "It cannot be that they fill their mouths with the protection of our historical heritage and then are not able to spend the money they receive to preserve our most emblematic buildings."
“The negligence of Óscar Noda, too relaxed with his absolute majority, presumes in his speeches the supposed effectiveness of his management; however, he has had to return a total of 6,768.27 euros from a nominated subsidy that he did not know how to execute and that reached 20,000 euros”, says Lemes.
The residents of Yaiza have had to return money to the Cabildo of Lanzarote because "their mayor did not comply with the requirements and conditions required within the established period." "It is not the first time that the consistory fails to comply with the provisions of the concession decrees and ends up handing over funds that would be very useful to cover some of the many shortcomings that the municipality has. Already last year," recalls the spokesperson, "the City Council had to return one million euros from a subsidy it received for the rehabilitation of homes, and did nothing with that money," he explained.
The neighborhood pays for the mayor's ambition
Yaiza Siempre considers that the municipality of Yaiza "is paying for the excessive political aspiration of Óscar Noda, who many months ago put his obligations as a local ruler in the background because he aspires to be, one day, president of the Cabildo", denounces Jonatan Lemes, who adds: "It must be remembered that this rudderless ship that is the City Council also did not request the island aid
destined for Crafts in each municipality for the year 2023, which caused the inhabitants to see another 15,000 euros fly away that would help the southern commercial fabric."
“It is clear that returning subsidies granted by other public institutions has become a habitual practice of this City Council, bad news that we from Yaiza Siempre denounce to prevent these funds from continuing to be lost, thus hindering the deserved progress that southern society deserves”, concludes Jonatan Lemes.
