Before submitting to a vote this Thursday in the Plenary the Agreement for the transfer of land in favor of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands to expand the Playa Blanca health center, the mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, dispelled the rumors about this matter, emphasizing that “once again we record our manifest will to collaborate to execute the expansion project of the Playa Blanca health center, let no one have any doubts about that. We already ceded the land in 2021 to the Canarian Health Service, an organ attached to the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, now they are asking us to change the Agreement so that the transfer is in favor of the Autonomous Community, so we have done it."
The mayor also stated “that it was this year, in April, when they asked us to modify the plenary Agreement. The neighbors are not very interested in these bureaucratic hassles and what they do demand is the expansion of the health center and, above all, that this be accompanied by service improvements. Now there are no excuses for not tendering the project."
Óscar Noda warned that “in the Canary Islands Budget there is only an item of 60,000 euros, which we assume will be to commission the drafting of the project, which we understand would have been possible to commission since we formalized the transfer in 2021." Since then, Yaiza has held meetings with the Lanzarote Health Area to study not only the expansion of the physical space of the health center on the plot adjacent to the current building, but also the functional plan with the improvements derived from the expansion. “There was consensus on the need to offer the rehabilitation and physiotherapy service and to enable a specific module for emergencies,” recalls the mayor.
Inauguration of César Rijo González
The plenary session of Yaiza began with the inauguration of the councilor of Unidos por Yaiza (UPY), César Rijo González, accompanied in the room by his family and members of the local committee of his party who wanted to accompany him. Rijo González, a resident of the coastal town of El Golfo, has a degree in geography from the University of La Laguna and is a person closely linked to the cultural life of the municipality and Lanzarote as a poet, theater actor and dancer of the Rubicón Folklore Group of Yaiza.
The mayor delegated to him the government areas of Culture, Commerce and Consumption, which were previously held by Daniel Medina, who continues with Festivities, Tourism and Equality. In the movement of delegation of areas, Óscar Noda appointed Beatriz Vázquez as the new head of Beaches, in addition to Classified Activities and Public Spectacles. The councilor maintains Citizen Security, Civil Protection and Transportation. UPY governs with an absolute majority in Yaiza represented by nine councilors in the Plenary of the Corporation.
The mayor wished César Rijo success and said of him that he is “a neighbor who has more than proven to be committed to Yaiza. We are pleased and proud that he has accepted to take the step to serve the municipality from the City Council." All political groups gave a cordial welcome to the new southern councilor.
