The Yaiza City Council concludes this week the works on the access roads to the Papagayo beaches within the Monumento Natural de Los Ajaches. In total, the City Council has allocated municipal resources for the conditioning of seven kilometers of tracks that were deteriorated, not only by the constant passage of vehicles, but by the rains of recent months that displaced earth and aggregates.
Making available the use of heavy machinery, the Administration presided over by Óscar Noda ordered the rectification of the road surface and compaction of the rolling surface by wetting the ground. The mayor highlights “the municipal effort, today and always, for the maintenance of these roads. We advocate for an agreement formula with the Cabildo de Lanzarote for the regular conditioning of the tracks, taking into account that it is one of the most visited natural areas in Canarias. We continue to wait for the island Cabildo to respond to our meeting request so that it assumes its responsibilities in the conservation of Los Ajaches”.
It should be remembered that the legal services of the City Council issued, last September, a detailed report which points to the fact that it is the Cabildo de Lanzarote, as the managing body of the Los Ajaches Natural Monument, the competent institution and responsible for its care and maintenance as expressly stated in the Conservation Rules of this protected area. “We refer to the dirt tracks, camping, renewal of signage, cleaning and equipment in general,” adds Óscar Noda.
On the other hand, Yaiza, through councilor Rubén Arca, reminds drivers of the obligation to drive at a moderate speed: “first and foremost, for safety, and also because it helps to keep the road in better condition.” Papagayo is an indispensable refuge for residents and tourists and in the area Yaiza also invests in the research and exploration of the archaeological site of Rubicón together with the Government of Canarias and the two public universities of Canarias.
