The Mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, presided this Wednesday over a minute of silence in memory of the baby of British origin who died in the multiple hit-and-run that took place last Monday in Playa Blanca. Councilors of the southern corporation, municipal workers, members of the security and emergency forces, the parish priest of Yaiza and neighbors joined this tribute to a minute of silence in the Town Hall square where the municipal flag flies at half-staff as a sign of mourning.
The City Council declared Wednesday and Thursday as days of official mourning for an event that has shaken society. Óscar Noda thanked “the citizen participation in this gesture of respect in the face of a tremendously painful event for the victims of the accident, who are British and Swedish visitors. Our solidarity and respect for everyone, their loved ones and relatives, trusting in the positive evolution of the health of the people admitted. Around 1,600 British people live in the municipality, so we also extend our condolences to the United Kingdom community for the death of the baby.”
The Mayor of Yaiza reiterates his gratitude “to the members of the Yaiza Local Police, Firefighters of the Security and Emergency Consortium, Yaiza Civil Protection, Civil Guard, Emerlan and paramedics of the Canary Emergency Service for their sensitivity and professional intervention in the immediate care of the affected people, as well as to the doctors and healthcare personnel dedicated to the recovery of the injured admitted to the Dr. Molina Orosa Hospital of Lanzarote and the Dr. Negrín of Las Palmas.”
