The Yaiza City Council completed this Friday the installation of three waste compactors in Playa Blanca with the aim of improving the organic waste collection service in three key deposit points: the one located on the plot next to the church, the one on Comedero street, both in the center of the tourist town, and the container area near the port.
With the three compactors, the administration intends to reduce the volume of waste, consequently, free up space and also improve hygiene at these high-frequency points. The Councilor for Cleaning of Yaiza, Rubén Arca, encourages residents, bars and restaurants “to make the best possible use of the compactors by throwing waste into the mouth of the machine and trying not to leave garbage scattered around it.”
Óscar Noda declares that “it is a measure that helps to improve, but we are very clear that the definitive solution involves the implementation of the service with a more ambitious specification in accordance with the growth of the population and demand of all our towns. The specification has been appealed several times and our goal now is to overcome the obstacle and award and sign the contract.”
