The Yaiza City Council installed this week two new metal cages for the deposit of cardboard waste in central points of the tourist town of Playa Blanca, "with the purpose of alleviating the deficiencies in the selective garbage collection managed by the Cabildo de Lanzarote through the company responsible for this service. We are also having problems with the collection in the plastic recycling containers and lack of maintenance and cleaning in the glass deposits," says the mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda.
The cages are located, one in the plot next to the church and another in Comedero street, to complete two in each of these neuralgic points where shops, bars and restaurants usually throw cardboard and other waste, adding another cage that the City Council had already installed at the container point near the port.
The Councilor for Cleaning of Yaiza, Rubén Arca, thanks "the citizen collaboration in the proper use of these cages to separate and throw the cardboard in them, as well as good use is being given to the three compactors for the deposit of organic waste that we installed last January in the center of Playa Blanca." The reduction in the volume of waste and the improvement in hygiene conditions in the environment of the compacting machines is evident.
