The Yaiza City Council, represented by the mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, the Councilor for Tourism and Beaches, Daniel Medina, and the Councilor for Sports, Ángel Lago, landed this Wednesday in Madrid to strengthen its presence as a "quality" tourist destination at the 'International Tourism Fair' (FITUR), which Madrid hosts from this Wednesday, January 24, until next Sunday, January 28, showcasing its "excellent" accommodation offer, the services and infrastructures it has, and the outstanding sports, festive, and cultural calendar of the municipality, in general, and Playa Blanca, in particular.
Thus, from the early hours of Wednesday, and despite the fact that the tourism fair did not start until this morning, the southern delegation set off with the first of the appointments scheduled in its agenda for these days, which took them, hand in hand with the 'Lanzarote Foreign Promotion Society' (SPEL), to the 'Higher Sports Council' to participate in the presentation of the 'Lanzarote International Regatta', a high-level event that Playa Blanca will host during the months of January, February, and March, which includes a qualifying event for the upcoming 'Olympic Games' in Paris 2024.
During the event, which was attended by the Deputy Director-General of 'High Competition of the Higher Sports Council', Aitor Canibe, and the CEO of Marina Rubicón, Rafael Lasso, among other authorities, the mayor wanted to emphasize that “it is an honor to lead a municipality with the best regatta field in Europe. In Yaiza, we firmly support nautical sports for their advertising and economic impact, and for strengthening our position in sports tourism, contributing 12 million euros to the local economy.”
Subsequently, the southern delegation attended the 'Re Think Hotel' awards ceremony, held at the Secretary of State for Tourism of the Ministry of Energy, Tourism, and Digital Agenda, in which the Barceló Playa Blanca Hotel, a four-star complex that opened its doors last December in the tourist town with 100,000 m2 and 720 rooms, was recognized for its commitment to "sustainability" and "integration" into the landscape.
During the same day, the southern representatives also visited the 'Álvaro Alcázar Gallery' in the capital, where the Lanzarote artist Juan Gopar was finalizing his monographic exhibition 'The Island Workshop', a show that opens tomorrow, January 25, and can be enjoyed until March. The mayor wanted to convey his "congratulations" to the artist, to whom he was grateful "for exporting local culture to other latitudes.”
Agenda at the International Tourism Fair
On the morning of this Wednesday, the southern delegation resumed its agenda at 10:30 a.m. at the official opening of the Canary Islands stand at the 'International Tourism Fair' (FITUR), later attending, with the southern mayor as a member, the presentation of the stand of the 'Association of Tourist Municipalities of the Canary Islands' (AMTC), of which Yaiza is a part, and which was also attended by the Minister of Tourism of the Government of the Canary Islands, Jéssica de León, the Vice President of the regional government, Manuel Dominguez, and the president of the AMTC and mayor of Adeje, José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga.
In this scenario, Óscar Noda has taken the opportunity to present the municipality as a tourist destination of "great quality" to the media in Madrid, tour operators, and professionals in the tourism sector, in an event moderated by the CEO of the 'Lanzarote Foreign Promotion Society' (SEPL), Héctor Fernández, highlighting that “Yaiza is a benchmark in tourism in the Canary Islands thanks to its modern hotel infrastructure, which is highly competitive and that makes us strong within the Canarian market. In addition, this excellent accommodation infrastructure is joined by the modernity of its infrastructures, the availability of sun and beach practically continuous, and a calendar of sports events that places us as benchmarks for sports tourism in Spain.”
“But Yaiza is much more,” the mayor continued, emphasizing that “it has a strong cultural and festival offer for the enjoyment of our residents and visitors, in addition to an impressive landscape and heritage value.”
For the coming days, the southern delegation has a busy agenda of professional meetings and meetings with different agents, in order to make the most of their stay at this important fair with the focus on finding new opportunities to continue positioning the municipality and attract new visitors.
