The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, registered a document this Friday at the Cabildo of Lanzarote not only confirming the return of one million euros corresponding to projects under the 2021 Cooperation Plan, but also demanding its reimbursement for the execution of new municipal initiatives of general interest.
In the letter sent to the Ministry of Planning and Project Coordination, the southern leader recalls that “we are returning the money for incidents not attributable to the City Council, so we request its reimbursement through any subsidy line. We have more than enough projects and we are executing them with our own resources, for example, repaving of roads and beautification work in Playa Blanca and sports court works and improvement of the surroundings of the Uga wrestling ground, among others”.
Óscar Noda also regrets that “neighbors of the municipality may be harmed by circumstances beyond the Institution's control”. In this regard, he summarizes the problems arising from the Playa Blanca football field, specifically due to the change in levels agreed upon by the Cabildo, or the project for a ball court and social club in Uga. Along the way, there was resolution of contracts in accordance with the Public Sector Contracts Law and errors detected in projects drafted by technical personnel external to the Administration.
The City Council defends that "it has made all the necessary efforts for the correct execution of the 2021 Cooperation Plan and for this reason it also asks that the Cabildo refrain from claiming late payment interest. Regardless of the institutional relations on this matter, the City Council reserves the right to take legal action as provided by law." Yaiza confirms that it will file an administrative litigation appeal, also based on a legal report from the FECAM, which has already spoken out about the harm that several municipalities in Lanzarote are suffering as a consequence of the island's Cabildo demanding the return of money for unexecuted projects.
Óscar Noda also criticizes the “lack of political coherence of the Cabildo”. The mayor points out that “while the president congratulates himself because they obtained a millionaire extension from the Government of Spain for the execution of hydraulic works on the Island, well, it turns out that here he turns his back on municipalities that are even governed by his party, like Teguise”.
