The Yaiza City Council distinguished this Thursday, October 8, at its annual tourism gala, the company Viva Blue Diving, “for its undeniable commitment to tourism excellence, environmental care, and environmental awareness”. Thus, the diving center managed by Gemma Lago, Raúl Anaya, and Sebastián Ceriani, received the Premio Turismo Yaiza 2026 in Playa Blanca from the mayor, Óscar Noda, and the Councilor for Tourism, Daniel Medina.
Both political leaders praised the diving center's eleven-year track record of tourism services, previously known as Pura Vida, and its valuable environmental education work, which it not only conveys to its clients and the southern community but also materializes in the periodic beach and seabed clean-up days it has been carrying out for eight years with the help of volunteers and municipal support.
On behalf of Viva Blue Diving, Gemma Lago valued the distinction as “a very concrete way of understanding what it means to develop a tourism activity in a place like Lanzarote, a territory and coast that we all have the obligation to care for. As divers and as people who enjoy nature, we know that what today seems infinite and resistant can actually be very fragile”.
Viva Blue Diving thanked and included all its staff and volunteers in the award, an essential force to guarantee the continuity of the coastal clean-up days, but it also wanted to express its gratitude to the City Council: “Finding an institution that does not limit itself to saying that an idea is good, but is willing to implement it with you, makes a huge difference. Throughout all these years, we have proposed ideas, activities, and collaborations, and we have felt that the City Council was there, willing to listen to us and work together”.
Óscar Noda emphasized that “the municipal recognition of Viva Blue Diving coincides with the rebranding and launch of its international identity, so as mayor of Yaiza, it is not only an honor to represent my municipality at this ceremony, but a pride to present the Premio Turismo Yaiza 2026 to a team that works for quality sustainable tourism, a team made up of people with big hearts”.
The Councilor for Tourism of Yaiza, Daniel Medina, also highlighted “the collaborative relationships with Viva Blue Diving, their initiatives, and the commitment to carry them out by involving the community of Playa Blanca and Yaiza in general. And if we talk about tourist quality, the diving center has an impeccable record for customer satisfaction, their friendly approach, and their safe way of teaching young and old to discover the sea”.
With environmental awareness campaigns, “we continue to learn to look towards the ocean and to understand to what extent marine life is essential for the balance of our planet and for the air we breathe,” concluded Gemma Lago.
And if a performance by two actors on the tourist evolution of Playa Blanca, with old images in the background, surprised at the start of the gala, the musical performance by the singer-songwriter from Gran Canaria, Aduén Amaya, with the interpretation of heartfelt lyrics and Latin rhythms, accompanied by a great band, closed the southern night of reasons and emotions with a flourish.
