The counselor of the Island Council of Lanzarote for Vox, Óscar Domingo Pérez, member of the Mixed Group, has presented to the plenary a relevant motion that seeks to address an initiative for the "tourism and educational development on the island." The proposal consists of addressing the City Council of Arrecife to request the transfer of the building of the old Parador de Lanzarote to the Island Council, in order to turn it into a Hotel-School and thus promote both "tourism and training in the hotel sector."

The counselor understands the "importance of tourism as a source of income for any city", especially for the capital of an island. In this sense, he considers that having the old parador would be an "attraction for Lanzarote, allowing the installation of a hotel-school."

"This would boost the avenue and the island as a whole, turning the place into a point of interest both for its historical significance and for the internal paintings made by César Manrique," Pérez points out. In addition, the proposal seeks to "offer training and practices to students interested in the hotel sector, thus contributing to the training of future professionals in the hospitality industry."

Óscar Domingo highlights that this initiative "fits with the vision of the Minister of Universities, Culture and Heritage of the Government of the Canary Islands, Migdalia Machín, regarding the conservation of island and cultural heritage." The proposal also raises the "relocation of the UNED, ensuring that this academic institution deserves improved and adequate facilities for Lanzarote students."

The objective is to create a university campus that meets the "educational expectations" of the island. From the party, the approval of the councilors in this plenary is sought to promote this proposal that "promotes both education and tourism in Lanzarote."
