Alfredo Villalba has criticized the permissiveness of the Haría City Council with the caravan campsites in the municipality. Thus, the socialist councilor has commented, in statements to Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero, that it "draws a lot of attention how camping was prohibited in Papagayo" and that during Holy Week campsites have been seen "on La Garita beach, one of the emblems of the municipality, where the necessary conditions are not met for this type of overnight stay".
That is why Villalba has stated that they ask the Council, "although it is a broader issue than municipal", to carry out "a regulation, because when these types of agglomerations occur, which do not respond at all to health criteria, they become a problem". Thus, with this type of caravan campsites, "the image is not even remotely the most pleasant for those who visit us from outside nor for the neighbors themselves, from whom we have had many complaints throughout the week", added the PSOE councilor in Haría.
"The image is not ideal, that of overcrowding, because some caravans are very close together, almost touching" commented Alfredo Villalba. In this sense, the councilor has pointed out that these areas where caravans camp "become towns, almost industrial estates", where "there are people who are very civic, but there are others who are not". That is why Villalba has stated that "in such a beautiful, precious, and emblematic environment as we have on La Garita beach, seeing that it is full of excrement and garbage is not at all a positive image of the north or the island". Also because of the caravan campsites, "La Cantería beach, in Órzola, which was quite dirty during the Holy Week festivities" he assured.
"There is a significant number that uses this type of vacation and leisure, but it will have to be done in places that offer security and that offer the minimum conditions of hygiene, as is done in other countries in Europe where we live", said the socialist councilor. However, he commented that "on the island of Lanzarote, for the moment, it does not happen and the rest means altering the normal life of the ecosystem".
"We have to find a solution"
Villalba has criticized the actions of the government group in the face of this situation. "This new council moved some stones so that the camping even occurred", which is different from "what was done with the previous government group, which even tried to eliminate it, because conditions of any kind are not met" said the councilor.
Faced with the situation experienced during Holy Week, Villalba has assured that "the caravans have left, there are some left, but we continue with the same problem for weekends and for the summer period that is near". "Therefore, now we have to find a solution", added the councilor.
Despite everything, Villalba has clarified that "with this we do not want to say that we are against people camping, but they will have to do it in the minimum conditions of healthiness".
