The current general secretary of Comisiones Obreras in Lanzarote, Vanesa Frahija, who announced a few weeks ago that she would not run for re-election on the island, reported on her candidacy for the General Secretariat of CCOO of the Canary Islands at an event held this Friday in San Bartolomé, with Manuela Carmena as guest of honor.

“It is a decision that has taken time to reflect on and in which once I have been clear, there will be no turning back in the presentation of my candidacy,” Frahija declared before the attendees of the event. “Faced with the challenge of representing our organization, I can only say that responsibility and commitment are not new to me, but from the General Secretariat of CCOO Lanzarote we have defended and worked tirelessly so that the working class has felt represented by the largest union organization on the island.”

This new candidacy wants to "bring a form of trade unionism that is close, of class, loyal to the working class and that improves working conditions in the workplace. To put people at the center, both those who need the union and those who make it up."

“Everyone around me knows my beginning in the union, from the grassroots, with a commitment to the people we represent, who are the most important in our Organization,” she continued. Vanesa Frahija began in Comisiones Obreras in 2003 as a delegate of the Hiperdino company, where "her commendable work and always in favor of the rights of working people have made her one of the great values of this organization both from the Union Section and in the following positions in the direction of the Insular Union of Lanzarote until now where her stage in the Insular Union of Lanzarote as General Secretary will not be forgotten," the union stated in a statement.

"It may seem that the union's congresses have little to do with the public, that they are only an internal process of selecting bodies. But the leadership and guidance of CCOO Canarias not only affects its workers, it exerts a direct influence on the issues and decisions of the next four years that seek to "improve the lives of the people of the Canary Islands, not only in the workplace but also in social policies that improve the quality of life," she declared.

This is a great challenge that she assumes with enthusiasm, commitment, responsibility and seriousness. And most importantly: “that it will be carried out surrounded by a team of colleagues with the objective of developing many projects where the members, supporters, CCOO RLPT, feel cared for and represented and proud to represent the largest Union Organization in the Canary Islands.”
