Unidos por Yaiza (UPY) encourages Oswaldo Betancort to "truly materialize" the acquisition of homes for social rent "and not remain in empty promises." The political formation led by Yaiza recalls the proposal submitted by the municipal government to the Director of the Canary Islands Housing Institute last February for the purchase of 42 homes built in the town of Playa Blanca, in view of the announcement by the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote to accept said initiative.
The Councilor for Housing of Yaiza, Karina Centeno, recalls that "there have been many municipal initiatives to put homes on the long-term market, apart from the transfer of land in Playa Blanca for the construction of 126 social homes that we already have guaranteed with the Government of the Canary Islands, but we must continue to insist until we see concrete facts."
Karina Centeno also specifies that "the reform introduced in the Housing Law of the Government of the Canary Islands by the approval of the Decree-Law of urgent measures regarding housing determines the obligation of the councils to promote the construction of protected housing, so we hope that this commitment acquired by the president of the Cabildo can be made effective as soon as possible."
For Yaiza, adds the councilor, "it is a priority to make available to its residents homes in an affordable long-term rental regime to guarantee the right of all citizens to decent housing, as provided in our constitutional text, and that is why the Yaiza City Council continues to study complementary initiatives to the project of construction of the first 126 homes by the Government of the Canary Islands."
Among the alternatives that Yaiza is studying "is public-private collaboration for the construction of homes under an official protection regime on publicly owned plots through the competition for the selection of the successful bidder."
