Arrecife Local Police unions criticize Reguera for not activating any "special" device during the storm

The CSIF and Intersindical unions of the Arrecife Local Police have once again lashed out at the mayor, Cándido Reguera. According to them, the mayor has once again demonstrated "his contempt for security, proving that his promises are pure electoral propaganda." This "incapacity" of Reguera was demonstrated, according to the unions, last Tuesday when, being in a state of alert, first yellow and then orange, the mayor "did not carry out any special security device to be able to attend to all the services that occurred due to the rain."

For these unions, Reguera demonstrated on the day of the storm "his poor management and his incapacity" at the head of the Department of Police. "This day the service was provided by the operational group that corresponded to it with two patrols and two officers and they were overwhelmed by the large number of services," denounced Javier Curbelo, from CSIF, and Andrés Martín, from Intersindical.

These unions have also assured that the agents who were providing service in the rain and, on occasion, "with water up to their waists", had to buy "water boots with their own money", since the municipal corporation "does not provide" adequate material in the face of this type of adverse weather phenomena. "Since 2009 and 2010 and, even, in the 2011 budget, there is a item destined for clothing for the Local Police that is conspicuous by its absence," they have criticized.

These unions have taken it very badly that the mayor appeared before the media "with waterproof clothing." And they consider that in this way he showed "contempt for the security work carried out by the police officers."

"Camouflaged and uninsured" vehicle

According to these unions, Reguera visited several points in the capital during Tuesday in the company of the current deputy chief commissioner of the Local Police. For this, he used "a camouflaged police vehicle exclusively for the headquarters." The unions have assured that this car is circulating with the insurance expired for just over a year.

"The mayor is more concerned with buying iPads and making television programs than anything else," they indicated in this statement, in which they also assured that they do not understand how Reguera establishes extraordinary services every weekend "lacking in some cases of meaning."

"It gives the feeling that the purpose of these extraordinary services is to release a press release on Mondays taking advantage of the work of the police for his electoral campaign," they denounced.
