The Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce of the Government of the Canary Islands, through the General Directorate of Tourism Infrastructure, has granted a direct subsidy of 100,000 euros to the Haría City Council to undertake the regeneration of the coastal area of Arrieta and specifically the area of La Garita beach.
The action, budgeted at 290,800 euros, of which Tourism of the Canary Islands contributes 34.39%, mainly foresees the improvement of accessibility to La Garita beach, where work will also be carried out to improve the urban environment, which according to the Executive "will gain in modernity, security and pedestrian spaces".
The Councilor of the Area, Yaiza Castilla, highlighted the importance of this type of action, which "considerably improves the image of our islands as a first-class tourist destination." The case of La Garita beach, she pointed out, is "a clear example of an enclave that needed an update” and that "now it will not only be an accessible beach for people with reduced mobility, but will offer a more modern image with new sidewalks and practical public spaces so that pedestrians can move safely".
In this regard, the general director of Tourism Infrastructure, Fernando Miñarro, assures that “this project will attribute a more modern and dynamic aspect to one of the most important enclaves in the municipality of Haría". It is also about executing sidewalks and pedestrian crossings giving priority to the latter, "but without hindering the circulation of vehicles with respect to the accesses to the beach, all in a safe and orderly manner”.

Among the planned actions is the demolition of part of the pavement and sidewalks and milling to leave the entire surface as a single platform. The elements of the bio-healthy play area will also be dismantled and moved to a new location.
In addition, action will be taken on the pipes for the distribution of low-voltage energy, which will be buried and improved where necessary, and the urban supply, sanitation or electricity facilities affected by the works will be replaced, providing the area with the necessary network for the installation of public lighting and the pre-installation of water supply to provide a shower service on the beach.
The project also contemplates the installation of access ramps for people with reduced mobility according to current regulations and the placement of railings both on the ramps and on the new sections of access to the beach, the reinforcement and replacement of the masonry walls and the installation of urban furniture (benches, bollards, bicycle parking elements, litter bins, planters…) and various plant species.
The financing of these actions is framed within the Strategic Plan of subsidies of the Ministry of Tourism 2020-2022 and the works must be executed before December 31, 2022.
