The representative of the Security, Emergencies and Health area of Unidos por Lanzarote y La Graciosa, José Torres, demands public explanations from Daisy Villalba, former councilor for Nueva Canarias and current technician in the Cabildo de Lanzarote. Coalición Canaria announced that Villalba will be the party's candidate for the Senate for Lanzarote as an independent, after she left her seat in the Cabildo de Lanzarote in 2024 due to "incompatibility" after having joined the institution as a trainee civil servant.

Torres has demanded that Villalba and Coalición Canaria take a stance on the case of the Elderly Residence managed by the company Amavir in Tías, where serious cases of mistreatment of users were reported, and on the political actions taken regarding a situation that directly affects the elderly of Lanzarote and their families.

Torres believes that citizens "deserve to know if the demands for transparency and political responsibility expressed in the past are maintained today with the same firmness, regardless of alliances and institutional positions."

"Daisy Villalba must explain if she maintains today the same principles she defended when she was linked to Nueva Canarias. Because it would not be acceptable for such a sensitive issue as Amavir to have had one political importance before and a different one after approaching Coalición Canaria."

Daisy Villalba and Coalición Canaria: the unanswered questions

Unidos por Lanzarote y La Graciosa has described it as "essential" to recover Daisy Villalba's public statements on Amavir and contrast them with her current position.

The party poses direct questions to the current candidate for the Senate: "Does she maintain the same demands for transparency regarding AMAVIR that she defended previously? What specific actions did she promote to clarify the situation and protect the elderly? What explanations has she requested from her new institutional responsibilities? What is the official position of Coalición Canaria on the pending issues? Are both willing to promote that all relevant documentation be known and that responsibilities that may correspond be clarified?"

Jose Torres points out that "it is not enough to talk about our elders when the issue makes headlines. The true defense of their rights is demonstrated by maintaining demands for transparency even when they may be uncomfortable for political allies themselves."

"Coalición Canaria also has to face the music"

José Torres considers that Coalición Canaria must publicly explain what measures it supports to clarify the pending issues related to Amavir. The party points out that political support for Daisy Villalba "does not exempt them from accountability" for their previous positions or for the institutional actions that are being demanded.

"Coalición Canaria cannot limit itself to supporting its representatives. It must also assume the commitment to answer the questions of the citizens. When it comes to our elders, political silence is not a sufficient answer."

Unidos por Lanzarote y La Graciosa considers that the debate should not focus solely on who holds an office, but on what commitments they make, what actions they promote, and what explanations Unidos por Lanzarote y La Graciosa is willing to give. "And what happened with Marciano Acuña's responsibilities?", adds José Torres, who also demands that the actions and statements of councilor Marciano Acuña related to Amavir be reviewed.

"We want to know what measures were taken, what results they had, and what issues remain pending. We are not asking for premature convictions, but for accountability that any public official should be willing to offer," says José Torres.

The party insists that the clarification of facts "must be based on documentation, verifiable actions, and the conclusions of the competent bodies. "The defense of our elders cannot change at the same pace as political alliances," he continues.

José Torres considers that the Amavir case raises an issue that transcends party differences: the obligation to maintain consistency when the rights and well-being of particularly vulnerable people are at stake.

"We ask Daisy Villalba something very simple: what has changed in her position on Amavair? Have the facts changed, have new explanations emerged, or has her political situation simply changed? If there are answers, the citizens deserve to know them."

They demand public explanations about the situation at Amavir

From Unidos por Lanzarote y La Graciosa, they demand that Daisy Villalba, Coalición Canaria, and Marciano Acuña publicly explain their actions and facilitate, within their competencies, the clarification of any pending issues.

"We are not going to accept that questions about our elders disappear from the political agenda because they are uncomfortable. Neither acronyms, nor pacts, nor positions can be above the truth."

"Daisy Villalba and Coalición Canaria have an opportunity to demonstrate that their commitment to our elders is above any partisan interest," concludes Torres. "Let them respond, let them explain their actions and let them contribute to clarifying everything that remains pending. Because our elders deserve facts, not speeches," he adds.
