Juntos por Lanzarote (JPL) has decided not to participate in any of the electoral confluences proposed for the upcoming general elections on November 29, after holding conversations and meetings with different political formations in the archipelago.
The municipalist federation considers that, although dialogue and the search for common spaces are necessary, this is not the time to join electoral agreements that could divert attention from its main objective: consolidating its own political project, built from Lanzarote and La Graciosa and at the service of its inhabitants.
JPL reaffirms its commitment to Canarian nationalism and recognizes the importance of Canarias having solid representation with its own voice in the Congress of Deputies, capable of defending the interests of the archipelago against the decisions of the major state parties.
However, the formation recalls that Lanzarote and La Graciosa suffer from a double insularity that does not always find an adequate response, not even within the Canarian institutions themselves.
In this regard, Juntos por Lanzarote considers that any project for Canarian unity must deepen territorial balance and ensure that the demands of the non-capital islands carry real weight in political decisions.
"Defending Canarias also means defending Lanzarote and La Graciosa, and we cannot speak of true Canarian unity if the needs of our island continue to be relegated to the background," points out Jerónimo Robayna, president of the interim management of Juntos por Lanzarote.
On the other hand, JPL recalls that its nature as a federation of municipalist parties is based on respect for the autonomy, identity, and plurality of the organizations that make it up. Therefore, for the upcoming general elections, the formation will fully respect the freedom to vote of its members and sympathizers, without requesting support for any specific candidacy.
The federation insists that this decision does not mean closing the doors to dialogue or questioning the decisions adopted by other municipalist organizations, to whom it recognizes their legitimate right to establish the agreements they deem appropriate.
"Our project is not born to occupy a circumstantial space in general elections, but to build a lasting political alternative that places the interests of Lanzarote and La Graciosa above any other consideration," states Robayna.
Finally, Juntos por Lanzarote points out that its political horizon is set for the municipal and insular elections of 2027, for which it will continue working on strengthening its structure and building a common project based on respect for the autonomy of the different municipalist forces.
"Our priority is Lanzarote and La Graciosa. That is our commitment and that is the path on which we are going to concentrate our efforts," concludes the president of the management committee.
