Juntos por Lanzarote presented itself this weekend to Lanzarote society in an event held at Bodega La Florida, in San Bartolomé, where the new islandist formation defended the need to recover a voice of its own for the island and reinforce its weight in the regional sphere.
The political project, promoted by members of Marea Viva, Primero Teguise, and Unidos por Yaiza, is born with the objective of "faithfully serving the interests of Lanzarote", moving away, according to its promoters, from "the complacency and servility of the major political parties (CC, PSOE, and PP), which have been more concerned with pleasing their leaders than their true bosses, the citizens of Lanzarote".
After signing the foundational document, the representatives of the three organizations defended the need to have a political tool capable of representing and defending the interests of Lanzarote and La Graciosa in the different public institutions.
During the speeches, participants called for a water management model "without interruptions", based on "serious and effective" management; a public transport system that reaches all corners of the island with greater frequency; and healthcare that pays special attention to the elderly and the Insular Hospital, which they defined as a benchmark in geriatric services. They also demanded infrastructure adapted to current needs, especially in terms of roads.
The spokesperson for Primero Teguise, Jonas Álvarez, highlighted the "bravery" of the formations that make up the new movement and assured that they have decided to "take a step forward" to regain political weight in the Canary Islands. In this regard, he defended the need for an independent voice that conveys the island's problems and is capable of obtaining funding to solve them.
For his part, the representative of Marea Viva, Mame Fernández, underlined the importance of the project continuing to grow and highlighted that it was born "from union and consensus" among different formations to respond to the needs of the citizens of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, "without ideologies based on hate or complacency".
The mayor of Yaiza, councilor of the Cabildo and president of Unidos por Yaiza, Óscar Noda, assured that the new party "is not against anyone, but in favor of Lanzarote". As he explained, the objective is to promote the evolution and growth of the island through a "100% conejera" management that places the citizen at the center of political action.
Likewise, the president of the management committee of Juntos por Lanzarote, Jerónimo Robayna, thanked the work done by the people involved in launching the project and encouraged them to continue gathering support among those who believe in insularism and share the objective of building a "prosperous" Lanzarote for present and future generations.
The new party also thanked the assistance of Óscar Hernández and Teodoro Sosa, representing Primero Canarias, as well as the presence of the mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz Saavedra; the mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez; the councilor of the Cabildo Ariagona González; the councilors of the PMH José Torres Stinga and Evelia García; and the spokesperson for Coalición Canaria in Tías, Amado Vizcaíno.
Juntos por Lanzarote also announced the celebration of its founding congress after the summer and invited citizens to join and participate in this new political project.
