The residents of Titerroy have been demanding for years the creation of a commemorative sculpture in their neighborhood. This initiative aims to beautify the environment and, at the same time, recognize the work of those who supplied water to homes before there was drinking water in the homes, preserving a crucial chapter in the history of Lanzarote.
The sculpture will pay tribute to the people and families who participated in the community distribution of water from the historic "Water Spout", a vital point for supply during times of scarcity. The project seeks to highlight the collective effort that allowed the neighborhood to face the lack of running water.
A significant fact is that one of the neighbors who was responsible for selling water in his day still lives in the neighborhood, thus providing a personal testimony that reinforces the importance of this recognition.
In addition to preserving the memory of the neighborhood, this proposal has an educational objective: to teach new generations about the social evolution of the neighborhood and the value of community work. The sculpture will promote a sense of belonging, strengthening the connection between the neighbors and the public space through stories that reflect the collective identity and values.
It has been proposed to locate the sculpture on the corner of Tingafa and Tinamala streets, a historical point of water collection and distribution in the neighborhood. This location has a deep symbolic meaning, as it represents the efforts of the neighbors to guarantee the water supply in times of need.
This initiative goes beyond urban beautification: it has an important educational and cultural value. By linking the public space with local history, it reinforces the identity of the neighborhood and pays tribute to those who made its development possible. The sculpture will serve as a permanent symbol of solidarity and collective effort.
