The mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz, visited the Irish businessmen of Puerto del Carmen these days who have been active for more than 20 years to inform them that they will be recognized during the next St. Patrick's Festival in the tourist town for their dedication and contribution to the local community.
"Our municipality beats in the heart of the vast majority of Irish people and this is thanks to the work of people who have managed to make every Irish person who arrives on our island feel at home," said José Juan Cruz, who thanked them for their "perseverance and resilience" in the different economic situations of the last decades.
The businessmen who will be honored on March 17 are Mai Blake, from Irish Harbour Bar, Shey and Kathleen Byrne, from Paddy's Bar, Gilbert Browne, from Spinnekar Bar, Gerry Flannigan, from Nelly's Bar and John Killeen, from Lanzarote Investments.
These expressed their gratitude to the mayor of Tías for "his closeness and for the attention" that the Irish community receives in the municipality, where Irish and Canarian culture coexist in harmony. José Juan Cruz Saavedra confirmed the support of the council to "continue strengthening the recent historical ties that unite us with Ireland."
