The Tías City Council unanimously approved during the plenary session held this Tuesday to eliminate the urban rate of the public transport service in taxis and apply the single interurban rate throughout the municipality, a demand from the sector that has already been implemented in more than 40 municipalities in the Canary Islands.

The Councilor for Mobility and Urban Collective Transport, Sergio García, pointed out that this responds to the demands of the Taxistas Norte y Sur de Lanzarote cooperative, which argues the lack of an urban area with urban continuity in the municipal territory, "a condition that does not allow us to develop a properly urban service, that is, with the generation of routes with an origin and destination point intertwined within the same area of the town".

"This approval is good news for the municipality and for the taxi sector, professionals whom I congratulate for their involvement and collaborative spirit," he said. With the single interurban rate, the erroneous application of different rates for the same routes will be avoided and transparency and security will be provided to all users.
