The Tías City Council has prohibited surface fishing in the section of Guacimeta beach that borders the airport. Airlines and Aena itself had reported that fishing in the area generated a "call effect" of birds that made it difficult for planes to land and take off. According to the PSOE, even Seprona had requested the "collaboration" of the city councils of San Bartolomé and Tías. Faced with these complaints, the Plenary approved this Monday a proposal from the Department of Urban Planning to prohibit this practice.
The proposal, which passed with the votes of the government group (PP and CC) and the abstention of the opposition, modifies the Municipal Ordinance Regulating the Public Use of Beaches and Bathing Areas/Places of the Coast and adds a new point to the article relating to fishing. This article already prohibited fishing in the marked areas and now it also does so in the section of beach next to the airport. The only exception to this prohibition will be for championships or competitions organized by the City Council or any entity that has obtained authorization for it. In these cases, it will always be allowed in places "properly signposted and on a temporary basis."
The socialist group, which abstained from the vote, emphasizes in this sense that the prohibition will imply police surveillance that they consider difficult to assume with a number of troops in the municipality "well below the average". "Currently, we only have 26 of the 51 Local Police officers, who are effectively incorporated and providing services for the entire municipality. How can it be expected that these agents, in addition to ensuring the safety of our municipality, will also be responsible for safeguarding the surroundings of the airport?", they question. In addition, they reproach that they "cannot expand the staff thanks, again, to the policies of the Popular Party."
The PSOE denounces the "decline" of the Fauna Control Service
On the other hand, the PSOE affirms that the Fauna Control Service that the airport has "has been diminished" since it was inaugurated in 2006. In this regard, they point out that "the policies of the Popular Party on the one hand intend to leave the City Councils without powers, but on the other hand they make them responsible for the consequences of their cutback policies." "In this case, the cutback policies of the Popular Party leave us without a service without assessing that our security is put at risk," they add.
Thus, the PSOE's proposal is to "demand that the central government maintain or, in any case, reinforce the Fauna Control Service of the Guacimeta airport" and argue that it is "more than evident that it is a necessary service and the City Council is neither competent nor has the means to guarantee that these measures are effective."
