The City Council of Tías celebrated one more year the International Day of Rural Women with an act of recognition to Benedicta Caraballo Medina, a resident of Masdache. Benedicta has dedicated her life to field and house chores, in addition to her commitment to volunteering, collaborating with different groups on the island.
The mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz, and the first deputy mayor, Nicolás Saavedra, congratulated the honoree and presented her with the diploma of recognition, a sculpture by Agustín Alemán and a bouquet of flowers; all this after receiving the applause and viewing a video that summarizes her life connected to the land.

Nicolás Saavedra highlighted Benedicta's strength and dedication, "who continues working to build a more just and equitable society, as her activity, both in the field and in the solidarity field, has contributed to the well-being of all." Benedicta worked for nine years with the El Cribo Mental Health Association and continues to collaborate, for 22 years, with the Calor y Café collective.
Benedicta Caraballo Medina, daughter of Julia Medina Cáceres and Marcos Caraballo García, was born in Las Breñas on May 7, 1943. During her 81 years of life, she has been linked to the countryside by family tradition and for 40 years she has been a resident of Masdache, where she grows legumes, fruits and vegetables. Benedicta has four children and four grandchildren to whom she has passed on her connection with the land.
