The Tías City Council recently offered a review of sports management in 2024, reaffirming its work in promoting and consolidating sports with a complete program of activities and allocating a total of 460,009.15 euros in subsidies to both sports clubs and major events.
The Councilor for Sports, Ismael Cruz, stated that "our priority is to guarantee access to sports for everyone, supporting both clubs and events that promote the participation and development of our athletes. With this investment, we reinforce our commitment to a diverse and quality sports offer."
In 2024, subsidies were granted to municipal sports schools for a total value of 324,209.15 euros, benefiting 14 entities such as CD Magec-Tías, CF Sporting Tías, CB Puerto del Carmen, and the Suhari karate club, among others.
The municipal sports schools registered a participation of more than 1,500 students in disciplines such as handball, karate, basketball, football, tennis, and rhythmic gymnastics, which reflects the growing interest of citizens in sports practice in the municipality.
In addition, nominated subsidies were granted for a total of 135,800 euros, destined for the organization of high-impact sporting events, such as the Vuelta Ciclista a Lanzarote, the Ironman Lanzarote, the Ocean Lava, and Fariones Run Night, thus strengthening the municipality's projection as a sports reference on the island.
Throughout the year, the City Council organized and supported more than 50 sports activities, among which the celebration of a qualifying match for the 2024 European Women's Handball Championship, the Rally Sprint La Candelaria, Tagoror Games, Lanzarote International Cup, and The Fitness Race stood out. Likewise, directed activities such as maintenance gymnastics and pilates have been promoted, benefiting more than 160 people.
