The demanding training and competition program of triathlete Yerove Rodríguez Machín barely allows him to visit his town, so taking advantage of a lightning trip of two days to Playa Blanca he was able to enjoy his family and participate in the recognition offered this Friday by the Yaiza City Council that enshrined his figure as an elite athlete "and a great example of the talent of our youth."

For the second consecutive year, Yerove is sponsored by the Spanish Triathlon Federation and by virtue of it resides and trains with the highest quality standards at the High Performance Center (CAR) of Murcia, a town where he also studies Higher Sports Cycle.

He is a boy focused on his preparation and academic training with a clear dream: to be part of the Spanish triathlon team at the 2032 Olympic Games in Australia, which means competing at the highest level adding 1.5 km swimming, 40 km by bike and 10 km running, hence he does not neglect his hard routine at all, yes, without forgetting his origins.

"My town is my base, it will always be my base because it is the starting point of this path. It is my home, my house, where my family is, where everything I love is. Playa Blanca has the perfect conditions in every way," said the athlete with the humility that characterizes him, surrounded in the facilities of Marina Rubicón by family members, municipal representatives and athletes from Lanzarote.

The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, said that "Yerove represents the competitive gene of an elite triathlete, but also embodies values as important for youth as discipline, perseverance, fidelity to their dreams, healthy habits and study"

The sum of all these values and, of course, his talent, skills and ability to practice swimming, cycling and athletics, make him an athlete with great potential. On October 27, he managed to break the Spanish U20 half marathon record in Valencia (1:06:14 h) and on January 12 of this 2025, also in Valencia, he made the best Spanish mark for the 10 kilometers U20 category (29:30 min).

Yerove's success cannot be understood without family support. The family has been encouraging him since he was little, being complicit in his dreams, and the young man has responded to all the sacrifice. The mayor also had words of congratulations for the members of the southern young man's family nucleus: "I want to congratulate them for their love and dedication to Yerove, for their advice and for making him grow as a person and athlete. We are all very proud that he leaves the name of the municipality of Yaiza and the island of Lanzarote at the top."

Playa Blanca has seen Yerove train and compete since he was 4 years old, participating in municipal sports schools in various disciplines, he was even in Canarian wrestling and light sailing. He was always a great animator of popular, recreational and solidarity events, and as a teenager he continued with the same impetus taking the step to compete against professional and experienced athletes. "That is why it is fair to give value to the formation of sports schools and the municipal calendar that offers our young people the opportunity to train from an early age and reaffirm their love for sports," said the mayor, in the emotional meeting that brought together the sports family of Playa Blanca around Yerove Rodríguez Machín.
