The Vox councilor in the Teguise City Council, Ginés González, offered a press conference on Monday morning at the Costa Teguise Civic Center to abandon the political formation he represents and move to the group of non-attached councilors.
"I have the obligation to take a firm and coherent position with my principles," he began during his speech to the press. The councilor added that this decision arises after the national leadership of Vox "abandoned the Canary Islands" after its resounding rejection of the distribution of unaccompanied migrant minors arriving in the archipelago.
Santiago Abascal's party decided to break the agreements of the autonomous communities where it governed, after Feijoó's party accepted the distribution of less than 400 unaccompanied migrant minors.
"I cannot continue in a formation that forces its representatives to abandon their principles," he added. However, he pointed out that "the decision to force the breaking of agreements in the autonomous communities does not influence his resignation," while adding "that the national leadership cannot put its well-being before that of Lanzarote and La Graciosa."
Just over a year ago, González (Vox) offered his support to Coalición Canaria and the Partido Popular so that they could form a government in Teguise. Later, the nationalist mayor Olivia Duque integrated him into her own government team, giving him the areas of the Local Police, Civil Protection and Traffic.
Now both parties will decide what González's future will be in the government group. For the moment, in statements to La Voz, he denies that he is thinking of joining Coalición Canaria or the Partido Popular.
"Local autonomy is essential to be able to respond to the demands of our neighbors. Vox has not understood the reality we suffer in the Canary Islands," he stressed.
To conclude, Ginés stated that "Spain must be one, for the good and also for the bad and the Canary Islands have been left alone, while they are used as a piece on a board."
