The demonstration that the unions intend to hold this Thursday on the maritime avenue of Arrecife, within the day of strike against the labor reform, arrives with controversy. Comisiones Obreras denounces that the General Directorate of the State Administration in Lanzarote has authorized the march, but including several clauses that they consider inadmissible: they are not allowed to circulate on the road, nor to "make noise".
Specifically, what the unions have been denied is that the road be closed to traffic, so the protesters will have to walk on the sidewalks. The demonstration, called at 6:00 p.m., will depart from Calle Real to Parque Islas Canarias. "We cannot use the road, only the sidewalks and without making noise. It's absurd. But, what are they trying to do? That we go in a balloon through the air and in procession, like in Holy Week, with Christ on our backs?", asks the general secretary of CCOO on the island, Vicky Sande, who affirms that "it is the first time that this has happened".
Faced with this fact, the unions have appealed to the Arrecife City Council to request that the street be closed to traffic. In fact, Vicky Sande assures that the Consistory has told her that "there is no problem". However, from the City Council they affirm that the street will only be closed to traffic "if there is a large influx and it poses a danger to security".
Even so, the general secretary of CCOO on the island says that they will go "in the middle of the street". "They are not going to stop us. Let them take the measures they have to take", she concludes.
