The Tourist Centers join the program of initiatives to celebrate the centenary of the birth of the writer José Saramago, which are being carried out both in Lanzarote and in his country of origin, Portugal, with "The Saramago Corner", a space that will be set up "in the shops of the Fire Mountains, the Farmer's House Museum and Jameos del Agua to promote the work of the Portuguese writer."
From the Centers they detail that in the course of the next few days, visitors to the spaces created by César Manrique "will be able to find editions in Spanish, English, German, French and Portuguese of some of the most recognized titles of the Portuguese Nobel Prize winner in a specific and easily identifiable display."
"The Saramago Corner is the sincere tribute we pay to one of the most outstanding figures in contemporary history for his undoubted contribution to culture and universal consciousness and his unwavering love for Lanzarote," said the CEO of the Centers, Benjamín Perdomo.
With this gesture, the Tourist Centers pay "a heartfelt tribute to the memory of José Saramago", who established his residence in Lanzarote in 1993, called 'A Casa', in Tías, where he would produce half of his literary work. In 1997, José Saramago "was declared Adoptive Son of Lanzarote at the request of the Island Council, and a year later he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature."
