The Titerroy Neighborhood Association has demanded this Wednesday that the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the Arrecife City Council prevent the Diocese of the Canary Islands from "appropriating" the town's parish, built by the neighbors themselves more than 50 years ago.
In a letter addressed to the mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, and the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, the residents ask both institutions for their protection so that the privatization is not carried out.
The residents have expressed their annoyance upon learning that the Diocese of the Canary Islands intends to register the land of the Church in its name. Thus, they have asked the two institutions to protect the residents of the Titerroy neighborhood to avoid the privatization of the parish.
"The residents refuse to accept it and are willing to go all the way for what they consider theirs", they insisted. Citizens have ironically asked the Canarian Diocese if "they do not know what the seventh commandment says": you shall not steal.
The association has warned that the two institutions have until July 14 to present allegations and stop this situation. "Act ex officio in defense of the rights of your neighbors, that their wishes are fulfilled so that said parish continues to belong to the neighbors", they concluded.
