The Tías City Council has processed the order for the transfer of a total of 85,775 euros as study grants corresponding to the 2025/2026 academic year. These grants, which range from 400 euros to 1,450 euros, have been awarded to a total of 81 students who meet the criteria required by the council.
The mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz, and the councilor for Education, Miriam Hernández, confirm that the bank transfers are already being processed and that the beneficiaries will receive the grants in their accounts over the next few days.
José Juan Cruz points out that "these grants represent a firm commitment by the City Council to education and equal opportunities. We want no student in the municipality to have their training possibilities limited by economic reasons, and that is why we continue to allocate resources to support our families."
For her part, Miriam Hernández highlights that "with these grants, we contribute to alleviating the significant economic effort involved in pursuing higher education, especially when students have to travel outside of Lanzarote. We will continue to work to facilitate access to education and support our young people in their academic and professional training."
The beneficiaries are individuals pursuing official university studies, whether in-person or online, inside and outside of Lanzarote; or official medium and higher-level vocational training studies that cannot be pursued on the island.
As in previous years, both the student's academic excellence and the family's social and economic situation are valued, taking into account the reports prepared by the Social Welfare department, headed by Nicolás Saavedra. In fact, this procedure is a joint effort by the Social Welfare and Education departments.
