The goal of the 24-hour mobilization is for the working classes and civil society in general to be able to "express their rejection of Israel's genocidal impunity."

STEC-IC, as a founding union and member of the Confederación Intersindical (CI), has agreed to call a 24-hour general strike for October 15 in the education sector of the Canary Islands.

Thus, they explain that "we are responding positively to a demand that the social movement in solidarity with the struggle of the Palestinian people has been making for more than a year, calling for the fundamentalist-authoritarian government of Benjamin Netanyahu to put an end to the genocidal policy that has been developing in Gaza since the current military offensive began two years ago."

This demand is part of the various demands raised by the social movement regarding the imposition of an immediate ceasefire, the end of arms sales to Israel, the severance of economic, commercial or any other kind of relations with the Zionist state, the end of the illegal occupation of the territories of Gaza and the West Bank, respect for the human rights of the Palestinian civilian population, and so on.

In recent weeks, there has been a substantial increase in mobilizations of solidarity and denunciation of the situation in Gaza. "That movement has spread like wildfire, encompassing all territories and professional sectors, it has reached the rural world, has grown geographically reaching numerous towns and cities, and has seen a significant rejuvenation of the protest," they emphasize.

"A large contingent of members of the STEC-IC and the Confederación Intersindical have been carrying out tasks within the social solidarity movement, validating our commitment not to abandon the Palestinian people in these difficult times. We have been pressuring the coalition government for two years, demanding effective and concrete steps to put an end to Israel's arbitrary policies, which disregard the rights of the civilian population recognized in international law," they continue.

Thus, they point out that "this set of authoritarian, violent, discriminatory policies has motivated the request that the International Criminal Court bring to the stand and judge those most responsible in the genocidal government of B. Netanyahu."

All these reasons lead the union to "take a further step forward by calling for a 24-hour mobilization so that the working classes and civil society in general can express their rejection of Israel's genocidal impunity. With this decision, we contribute to strengthening the social front that is mobilizing for absolute respect for Human Rights and an end to the current military offensive."

"Our consciences compel us to step forward, and today we do so. From the CI, we call on the rest of the trade union organizations that have been taking steps similar to ours in recent days to come together in organizing the mobilization. A broad front for the respect of the human rights of each people, a rejection of violence and war, a stubborn defense of human rights, are issues in which our concerns coincide," they conclude.
