The Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium, led by Councilor Francisco Aparicio, celebrated the Open Day this Friday at the Arrecife Central Fire Station, organized on the occasion of the XIV Fire Prevention Week 2019, in which the MAFRE Foundation and the Professional Association of Fire Technicians (APTB) collaborate.
More than a hundred students from primary schools on the island have become the protagonists of this day in which they have been able to learn firsthand about the human team that makes up the Lanzarote Fire Department as well as the material resources available to carry out their work.
The little ones have taken a tour of the base's different facilities, receiving explanations from the Security and Emergency technicians about the functionality of each of them, as well as the material and vehicles that make up the Consortium's mobile park.
The Vice President of the Cabildo, Jacobo Medina, took advantage of the activity to congratulate the Councilor for Security and Emergencies, Francisco Aparicio, the management and all the members of the Consortium for the great work they have carried out during these days and for the success of the activities that have been held throughout the week and that have included talks and also fire evacuation drills in several schools.
Jacobo Medina highlighted the importance of the participation of the little ones in this day whose objective "is to raise awareness and disseminate among the population the most basic self-protection measures and make it possible to approach these preventive practices from an early age. This helps a lot with their awareness and gives them skills so that they can detect risks from a very young age."
Once again, many faces of expectation and much excitement were seen in the park at the possibility of getting on a fire truck, seeing the GES helicopter up close or checking the skill of the professionals in the extrication simulation.
The XIV Fire Prevention Week 2019 continued this afternoon with the Conference "Mitigating Volcanic Risk, from Knowledge to Planning", aimed at professionals and groups linked to emergency management and the general public, which took place at the facilities of the Security and Emergency Consortium, on Tenderete Street in Arrecife.
