The Arrecife City Council will begin work next week on the fourth phase of the Municipal Resurfacing Plan in El Lomo, an area that, as highlighted by the mayor, Yonathan de León, had been waiting for its streets to be improved for nearly 40 years.
The mayor, who also heads the Public Works Department, explained that the action has been scheduled for these summer weeks with the aim of reducing inconvenience, as it will take place in the vicinity of the Nieves Toledo school, an area that connects with the neighborhoods of Tahiche Chico, Valterra, and El Lomo.
The awarded company has already begun installing informative fences in the streets included in this phase to ask residents to remove their vehicles and avoid parking during the execution of the works.
The works will include milling the surface to adapt the level of the new asphalt, priming the surface, and subsequently, resurfacing with specialized machinery. According to the City Council, the streets around the Nieves Toledo school will thus receive their first municipal resurfacing works after almost four decades.
The mayor has requested the cooperation of residents to remove their vehicles and respect the signage and alternative diversions. Likewise, the City Council reminds that the configuration of the streets, being one-way and of reduced dimensions, may affect mobility in the area for more than a week.
More actions underway
Yonathan de León has pointed out that since the beginning of the term, pavement improvement works have been carried out in neighborhoods such as San Francisco Javier, La Destila, Las Salinas, Titerroy, La Vega, Valterra, Maneje, Argana Baja, Porto Naos, and Altavista. Currently, work continues in Tinasoria, Argana Alta, Maneje, and El Lomo.
This new action in the vicinity of the Nieves Toledo school is in addition to the resurfacing carried out during 2025 in the lower part of El Lomo, where streets such as La Palma, La Gomera, Fuerteventura, Guardilama, and Andorrina, among others, were worked on.
The mayor has also confirmed that the Public Works Department will continue with new resurfacing actions in different neighborhoods of Arrecife during the second half of the year.
