The Socialist Group will defend in the next plenary session of the Cabildo of Lanzarote a motion for the island institution to express its support for the bill promoted by the Government of Spain that contemplates the reduction of the ordinary working day, approved in the Council of Ministers on May 6.
The socialist spokesperson in the Cabildo, Ariagona González, has assured that this measure "not only responds to a historical demand of the trade union movement, but is also supported by scientific evidence and successful experiences inside and outside of Spain."
"Reducing the working day without loss of salary is a commitment to the well-being of the working class, to reconciliation and to a more humane and efficient economy," said González, who has defended that "in the 21st century, working fewer hours does not mean producing less, but living better."
From the PSOE they remember that "the bill also includes guarantees such as the mandatory registration of the working day and the right to digital disconnection, key tools to combat abuse and advance equality".
The motion urges the Government of Spain to continue with the processing of the legislative text in the terms approved in the Council of Ministers. "The Cabildo must be up to the moment and show its support for a reform that can mark a before and after in the working lives of millions of people," added the socialist spokesperson. "It is not a utopia, it is a necessity. We are talking about mental health, time for family, quality employment and dignity," concludes González.
