The Socialist Party will announce this Friday its final decision on joining the government group of the Cabildo, where CC and the PIL have been governing in minority since the beginning of the legislature. The socialists have called an extraordinary and urgent meeting of the Island Executive to "assess and debate" their position regarding the pact and, subsequently, will offer a press conference.
In a statement, the PSOE recalls that since the beginning of this mandate, 10 months ago, the formation "has respected the agreement with the nationalists in the regional sphere, but refused to accept government responsibilities in the Cabildo, given what it considered interference from the partner in areas of its own responsibility."
The trigger for that "suspension" of the pact in the Lanzarote Cabildo was the dismissal of the then director of the PIOT Office, Leopoldo Díaz, by Pedro San Ginés. The president adopted that decision just before delegating the areas of government to the socialists, who, among others, were going to hold the Ministry of Territorial Policy.
Since then, the socialists have remained outside the government group, although in recent weeks meetings have been intensified trying to reach an agreement to redirect the situation, after almost a year of minority government in the Cabildo. After the PSOE Executive, the party's spokesperson in the Cabildo, José Juan Cruz, and the general secretary, Dolores Corujo, will appear before the media to explain their decision.
