The PSOE visits the residents of La Graciosa with the aim of regaining the island's council seat

The socialist councilor Marcos Bergaz has assured that "due to tradition, management, and attention to the island's unique characteristics, its elimination by the CC, PP, and VOX government was a mistake"

The Socialist Party (PSOE) announced this Monday, following the **meeting held with the citizens of La Graciosa** as part of its "door-to-door, town-to-town" initiative, its commitment to re-establish the delegated councilorship for the eighth island, which was abolished at the beginning of this term by the local government then formed by Coalición Canaria (CC), Partido Popular (PP), and VOX. This is what they are communicating to the public, in line with what was conveyed to the residents who participated in the encounters held in the streets, homes, and businesses of the town of Caleta del Sebo. Last Tuesday, part of the socialist municipal group in the Teguise and La Graciosa City Council, led by its spokesperson Marcos Bergaz, traveled to the island. In this regard, the socialists affirm that, "since 1987, uninterruptedly, the eighth island has always had a delegated councilorship, from Margarona to Alicia Páez; however, in one of its first decisions, the municipal government abolished it," recalled Marcos Bergaz. "Our opposition was of no use, nor were the 36 years in which there was a municipal representative dedicated to addressing the issues affecting La Graciosa, not out of whim, but as a consequence of the island's uniqueness, something that was repeated ad nauseam from the nationalist ranks of Coalición Canaria," stated Bergaz. "As the most voted party in La Graciosa and Teguise," affirmed the socialist leader, "we are convinced of the error in the current local government's decision, and we want to re-establish this position due to tradition and to better manage the municipal affairs that affect the eighth island." During this day of listening and dialogue with the citizens, the socialist group also shared other concerns affecting La Graciosa, which are still pending and have been advocated for throughout this term, such as "improvements in the **conservation and maintenance of public spaces**; pending investments in the **port or sanitation**; **renovation of the sports area**, still with a surface as abrasive as 'sandpaper grass'; or the reactivation of the citizens' council, aspects about which we have shown interest and presented initiatives in the city council and the Canary Islands parliament," pointed out Bergaz. To conclude, the socialist spokesperson, accompanied by councilors Jenifer Galán, Benito Rodríguez, and David Asorey, expressed gratitude for "the moments shared with each and every one of the residents, without distinction, who once again dedicate a few minutes to us to discuss their complaints, requests, and proposals in this initiative of direct contact with the citizenry that we are carrying out throughout the municipality."
