The spokesperson for the Socialist Group in the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Ariagona González, announced this Monday that the PSOE will bring a motion to the next island plenary session asking that the island not be "discriminated against" in the fuel bonus that will be applied exclusively to El Hierro, La Gomera and La Palma.

González explained that the Draft Law on the General Budgets of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands for the year 2024, establishes in its fifty-eighth additional provision, an aid of 20 cents per liter for the acquisition of fuel on the islands of El Hierro, La Palma and La Gomera, from which Lanzarote and Fuerteventura are excluded.

"Oswaldo Betancort cannot continue to submit to Clavijo, looking the other way while the Government of the Canary Islands discriminates against Lanzarote with the fuel bonus," the councilor pointed out.

"The data from the Government of the Canary Islands itself shows that Lanzarote and Fuerteventura suffer an increase of between 10 and 20 cents per liter compared to Gran Canaria and Tenerife", explained the councilor, pointing out that in the case of the so-called Green Islands that difference amounts to 25 or 30 cents, but "the Government of the Canary Islands, however, has only proposed corrective measures in the well-known Green Islands, turning its back, once again, on Lanzarote and Fuerteventura."

From the Socialist Group it is added that "this behavior deserves even greater reproach if one considers that Lanzarote and Fuerteventura are precisely the islands with the least income availability, according to the Atlas of Income Distribution of Households in 2021, published by the National Institute of Statistics (INE), and that Lanzarote has suffered budgetary mistreatment, which can only be described as humiliating, in that Draft Budget."
