The socialist councilor in the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Isabel Martín, has reminded Oswaldo Betancort that the Tahíche Senior Residence did not go forward due to "the fault of the Canarian Coalition." This is what she has assured after the statements of the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote in which he "congratulates himself" for negotiating with the Government of the Canary Islands the ten million euros to carry out this equipment.
"It was the government presided over by Pedro San Ginés that awarded the UTE Residenza, for an amount of almost 19 million euros, a Senior Residence in Tahíche with the capacity to accommodate 130 people in a residence regime and to serve another 50 as a day center," Martín explained.
As the former head of Social Rights, the councilor recalled the difficulties in starting the construction of this social and health resource due to the delay caused, precisely, by Oswaldo Betancort who "as mayor of Teguise took more than a year to grant inter-administrative cooperation, an essential requirement to start the works" that, in addition, were delayed again due to difficulties with the qualification of the land:
"The level of improvisation of the Canarian Coalition reached the point that they awarded the work without realizing that the land was not suitable for social and health use, one more difficulty that the government of Loli Corujo had to solve."
The councilor explained that from the moment the inter-administrative cooperation was available and the qualification of the land was resolved, the problems with the contractor began. "In view of its inactivity, we had to make several requirements to the UTE Residenza, without the company being able to undertake the works that had been awarded to it, so we launched a contract termination procedure, despite the fact that we had tried to avoid it in order not to delay the construction further," Martín indicated.
"If the work has been delayed, it has been due to the negligence of the Canarian Coalition, which awarded the work to a company without the capacity to execute it, which delayed the permits of Teguise and which planned it on land not suitable for social and health use," the councilor summarized.
Given the impossibility of meeting the deadlines, Martín pointed out, "the Government of the Canary Islands was informed and we had the commitment of Ángel Víctor Torres that if the subsidy could not be extended, it would be included again in this year's budget."
The PSOE is committed to the termination of the contract and recovering public management
Martín pointed out that the only viable solution, given the company's inability to assume its commitments, is to continue with the contract termination file, something that Oswaldo Betancort is trying to avoid since, surprisingly, "the Canarian Coalition advanced the UTE Residenza two million euros for earthworks that the company, as of today and despite the requirements made, has not justified."
The socialist councilor stressed that the resolution would also allow the recovery of the public management of the Tahíche Senior Residence since, she recalled, "Coalición presumes not wanting to privatize social and health management, but they awarded the UTE Residenza the management of the residence for a period of 30 years. That is the Canarian Coalition in its purest form, putting the care of our elderly in the hands of a construction company."
