They accuse Jesús Machín of using institutional profiles to launch partisan and offensive messages against Begoña Hernández, violating neutrality and the proper use of public resources

The Socialist Party of Tinajo has filed a formal complaint with the Commissioner of Transparency and Access to Public Information of the Canary Islands for the improper use of the official channels of the City Council to disqualify the socialist councilor Begoña Hernández, representative of the Mixed Group in the opposition.

The complaint, registered by the councilor herself, includes the publication made on July 20 on the institutional profiles of Facebook and Instagram of the Tinajo City Council, signed by the mayor, Jesús Machín, in which offensive expressions, personal disqualifications and clearly partisan messages are poured.

Among other statements, the mayor uses expressions such as "Shameful behavior of this councilor", "Stop lying, Begoña", or "Cheap demagoguery", comments that, according to the complaint, violate the principle of institutional neutrality and constitute an improper use of public resources for partisan purposes.

The PSOE of Tinajo warns that it is not the first time that the government group has used public networks to disqualify the opposition. In June 2022, a similar event occurred, also from the official channels of the City Council.

The complaint is based on Law 19/2013, on Transparency, Access to Public Information and Good Governance, which considers the use of public means for private or partisan purposes as an infraction, as well as on the Law on the Bases of the Local Regime and the Code of Good Local Governance of the FEMP, which establish the obligation to guarantee impartial, neutral institutional communication at the service of all citizens.

"The City Council is not a propaganda tool or a space for personal disqualification. Using public resources to attack an opposition councilor is not only a lack of ethics, but a clear violation of the law," said Hernández.

The PSOE requests that the Commissioner admit the complaint, require the City Council to provide the relevant explanations, urge the withdrawal of the publication and the issuance of a public apology on the same channels, and that, if the infraction is confirmed, the corresponding corrective or sanctioning measures be applied.

The socialists demand that the neutrality of institutional media be guaranteed and that the principle of impartiality be respected, preventing public resources from becoming tools of political attack or personal confrontation.
