The PSOE of Tinajo points out that it shares "the concern of the surfers and fishermen of La Santa, as well as environmental organizations for the effects that brine discharges could cause through an underwater emissary on the marine biodiversity of the area or on the famous wave of El Quemao and the left".
Therefore, the PSOE of Tinajo requests "an extraordinary and urgent plenary session of the City Council" with the aim of agreeing on "a consensus institutional declaration against the underwater emissary initially planned for the future desalination plant of La Santa".
"This unanimous position must be formalized in a plenary agreement"
The spokesperson for the Municipal Socialist Group, Begoña Hernández, considers that the "broad rejection" of social agents for the underwater emissary due to "the possible effects on the environment and marine biodiversity" should be "included in an institutional declaration".
In Begoña Hernández's opinion, "it is necessary that this unanimous position be formalized in a municipal plenary agreement, as it will support the efforts that the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, and the president of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, will make before the Government of Spain so that the desalination plant project is modified with respect to brine discharges through an underwater emissary".
The socialist spokesperson values "very positively" that the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the president of the Canary Islands "have opposed the underwater emissary", and hopes that the project "will be modified quickly so as not to delay its execution and that quality irrigation water reaches the agricultural sector of the municipality as soon as possible".
