The PSOE of Lanzarote kicked off the electoral campaign with a meeting with the members presided over by José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero. The former President of the Government of Spain and former Secretary General of the PSOE supported with his presence those who will head the lists on May 28 and the socialist family of the island in an event that took place in the Bodega La Florida, in La Geria, on the morning of this Sunday, April 2.
José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero detailed in his speech the social and economic advances achieved in our country under the presidency of Pedro Sánchez. He encouraged the members to face this electoral process “with arguments, with proposals, with solutions to problems, with kindness, defending humble people and with loyalty to the social democratic ideology”. He also demanded “a fairer distribution of wealth to end inequality”.
From the candidate to the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, he highlighted that she has achieved “stability and that the Cabildo and the island work”. Rodríguez Zapatero assured that Loli Corujo “proposes an island that can be lived by its inhabitants, sustainable, full of social rights and that, with tourism as the main source of wealth, allows us to show the rest of the world this great gift that is Lanzarote”.
Rodríguez Zapatero closed his speech asking the members to go to the electoral campaign “with ideas, with closeness, with dignity, loving people, without forgetting that we are a single humanity and welcoming those who come from other parts of the world to work with us”.
After Rodríguez Zapatero, the general secretary of the PSOE of Lanzarote and candidate for the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the Parliament of the Canary Islands for the island, María Dolores Corujo, spoke, who urged the members to take the message of progress of the PSOE “to all the towns and neighborhoods of the island, a message of equality, of rights for people, feminist and of sustainability”.
María Dolores Corujo encouraged the members not to be complacent and to work very hard until May 28 “to achieve absolute majorities in Tías and San Bartolomé, to do historical justice with Teguise and recover the mayor's office after 40 years, to take a woman to the mayor's office of Tinajo, to guarantee governability in Haría, to obtain the best results ever in Yaiza, a key municipality on the island, and to recover, finally, the mayor's office of Arrecife”.
To conclude, María Dolores Corujo stated: “In these two months that we have ahead, in the face of a lie, let's respond with the truth; in the face of an insult, with a smile; in the face of criticism, with a proposal. Together, united, we are invincible. But we will win these elections only with the commitment of each and every one of you, explaining what we have done, what we are doing and what we are going to do to improve this island and the quality of life of our people”.
The following were present at the event: María Dolores Corujo herself, to the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the Parliament of the Canary Islands for the island; Alfredo Mendoza, to Arrecife; Alfredo Villalba, to Haría; Isidro Pérez, to San Bartolomé; Marcos Bergaz, to Teguise; José Juan Cruz, to Tías; Begoña Hernández to Tinajo; and Carmen Guadalupe, to Yaiza.
