The Socialist Party of Lanzarote has demanded that the president of the Cabildo and the Water Consortium, Oswaldo Betancort, immediately hand over the documentation corresponding to the allegations presented by the company Canal Gestión, following the announcement of the start of the contract termination procedure.
According to the spokesperson for the Socialist Group in the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Ariagona González, the maximum period to deliver said documentation was May 12. However, more than a week has passed since the municipalities of Tías and San Bartolomé, members of the Consortium, formally requested access to the documents without having received a response yet. The Socialist Group in the Cabildo of Lanzarote has also requested access to the documentation.
According to González, this is an unjustifiable lack of transparency that not only leaves out two municipalities with voice and vote in the Consortium.
“What does Oswaldo Betancort have to hide in order not to provide even the members of the Consortium with allegations that are fundamental to understanding where the process is?”, she stated.
González insists that it is not possible to advance in a process of this magnitude “turning your back on the partners of the Consortium, denying them essential information and hiding documents that are key to the legal and technical analysis of the case.”
“No decision can be made with guarantees without having all the relevant information, especially in a procedure of this importance”, she concluded.
