El PSOE has denounced that Arrecife loses more than 132,000 euros in employment and sport for what it has called as "another incompetence" of the mayor, Yonathan de León.
The socialists have indicated that "if a few days ago we had to report that the Arrecife City Council has thrown away the whopping sum of ten million euros for not doing a sad project, now we discover that it has lost new items".
In particular, the opposition party has revealed that the council would have lost more than 132,000 euros in subsidies after not executing several projects linked to the areas of Employment and Sports, which has meant "the loss of public resources destined to improve job opportunities and key sports materials for the practice of sport in the municipality".
In this regard, it has denounced that employment is "a forgotten area" for the capital of Lanzarote, after losing "different funded programs to promote labor insertion". Specifically, in the project Arrecife Camina, the socialists denounce that De León has lost 13,715.08 euros.
To this is added the return of the Arrecife 2024 Social Employment Program, another loss of 17,256.62 euros. Furthermore, they have indicated that the City Council has also had to return the funds corresponding to the employment project Arrecife Activa, for a total of 48,198.24 euros.
"It is seen that the only employment policy of the PP is to plug in their incompetent cronies," the socialists have criticized.
Meanwhile, they have reported that in the area of Deportes the council has had to return 52,000 euros, corresponding to a subsidy granted by the Cabildo de Lanzarote for the “Acquisition of sports equipment for the facilities managed by the Ayuntamiento”, due to the project ultimately not being executed.
In total, the sum of these reimbursements reaches more than 132,000 euros of lost public money, "funds that were destined to boost employment in the municipality and improve the sports equipment of the municipal facilities".
The opposition party has pointed out that this situation highlights "the loss of opportunities for Arrecife, both in terms of job creation and in the improvement of sports resources at the service of the citizenry".
Meanwhile, he has recalled that this city council "has lost more than 10 million euros so far this year in projects that are not executed while the city and residents demand basic infrastructure and services".
“One cannot be with a mayor who is only concerned with parties and his judicial entanglements,” has concluded the socialist councilwoman Cristina Duque.
