The PSOE of Lanzarote deeply regrets "the disorientation of the president" of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, who, "a year and a half after assuming office, still does not know which wind farms are owned by INALSA or the real situation of their maintenance contracts."
“This ignorance highlights his inability to adequately manage not only the island's energy resources, but also raises concerns about the systematic way in which falsehoods are repeated,” they point out from the opposition group.
In the past plenary session of the Debate on the State of the Island, Betancort stated that when he arrived at the Presidency, INALSA's wind farms did not have maintenance contracts due to the previous government. However, "these statements were denied during the plenary session this past Wednesday, when the socialist group asked again about the matter after the reflections drawn from the debate."
The spokesperson for the Socialist Group, Ariagona González, states that "Oswaldo Betancort is lying when he assures that when he arrived at the Presidency, INALSA's wind farms did not have maintenance contracts." González has clarified that this statement is “one more in the list of falsehoods that Betancort uses as part of his political narrative, repeating it without blushing even in forums as important as the Debate on the state of the island.”
González revealed during the plenary session that INALSA and the Water Consortium signed a lease contract for the wind farms, in which both parties acknowledge that "the maintenance of all the parks is covered by their guarantee." She added that "the only expired contract, the one corresponding to the Teguise I park, expired during Betancort's term."
In addition, she clarified that "the only park that did not have a maintenance contract when Betancort came to the Presidency is the one in Los Valles, which is not owned by INALSA, but by its subsidiary, Eólicas de Lanzarote." González explained that "the breaches of the awarded company led to the revocation of the maintenance contract, preventing a new contract from being formalized until the wind turbines were in condition." She also indicated that the Punta Grande wind farm, which is also not owned by INALSA but by the Consortium, also did not have a maintenance contract, “the manager was preparing it and could not complete it because Oswaldo Betancort dismissed him,” she said.
"We know that Oswaldo loves to show off as a manager, but things get stuck because he still doesn't quite understand how the public administration works. First we had to terminate the contract, in accordance with the law, not with occurrences of his style; then we had to tender the repair of the mills, and it is when they are working that maintenance can be contracted,” added the socialist spokesperson.
Finally, González concluded: "If Oswaldo Betancort had the dignity that his position demands, he would apologize not to the PSOE, but to the population of Lanzarote for having lied once again."
